Stop asking how you can help.

Sure it’s polite, it shows initiative, but the truth is, it’s not enough. What the best leaders want to see in you is your ability to just solve the problem (aka. having high-agency).

High-agency professionals don’t wait to be asked. They don’t need to be spoon-fed instructions or given a detailed roadmap. They watch, listen, have perspective and most importantly—act. They see problems, even the subtle ones, and solve them without needing permission or validation.

Want to rise above the noise in your workplace? Here’s the secret: Stop asking for permission to add value. Start solving problems that no one even realized were problems yet.

→ Take notice of what drains your boss’ energy.
→ Tune into the things your colleagues complain about.
→ Pay attention to what slows down the team or what creates bottlenecks in your projects.

Then, use your insights and your initiative to take those challenges off their plates.

When you do this, you stop being just another employee. You become indispensable. You become a leader—even if you don’t have the title. You’re the person who people know they can rely on to simply get things done. And that’s a rare, highly sought-after quality.

You don’t have to be told to take the lead. Just do it.

The Context: My ​Career Success Fast Track™​ client was struggling with feeling overwhelmed in her fast-paced, demanding consulting role. She didn't want to let anyone down which led her to say "yes" far too often in situations that really warranted a "no". She fell into this dangerous trap because others knew she would get it done or they felt she was easier to deal with than other colleagues.
